Butser Hill Regeneration

A new mixed-use facility to address lack of green infrastructure of Petersfield and the provision of a new net-zero village.

BUTSER HILL QUARRY REGENERATION

Location: Petersfield, United Kingdom

Role: Principal Designer

Sector: Leisure

Value: £15m (Phase 1)

Status: Concept

The current masterplan for Petersfield looks to engage with the existing infrastructure to promote green corridors within the already dense built form of the town. However, expansion and integration with the landscape around have their limitations.

Therefore, the proposition, is to create a new cultural hub just outside the town at Butser Quarry to try an experimental approach to engage the community and the younger population with wildlife and biodiversity, and capture the essence of the culture that the SDNP has to offer, whilst protecting and enhancing the existing landscape.

The scheme will look to create a cultural exchange of mixed use interactions including; sustainable eco-village housing scheme; botanical gardens; agriculture; biomes preservation; visitor and learning centre; retail + welfare; and a transport interchange with hybrid monorail.
