Within the boundaries of the clients existing home and sitting adjacent to a prominent country lane, this new 2 bedroom home has been executed to perfection to realise the potential of the site and the adapting needs of the client. The home creates an elegant, contemporary, condensed home - which is full of warmth, character and charm.

The footprint of the new home sits within the existing garden of the house behind, capturing the essence of the old house within the shell of the new. It uses palette and material to reinstate the houses connection to its countryside roots.

The heart of the home is a light-filled oak framed atrium with full height glazing. In all aspects, the house is designed to be energy-efficient, requiring very little heating or cooling input.

The choice of fabric for the building has been specified to keep maintenance down to a minimum; the exterior surfaces of pressure treated softwood timber cladding for the walls, traditional clay tiles for the roof and meticulously crafted lead for the details require little maintenance or treatment. The house has been sited with orientation in mind to allow solar gains in winter to warm the rooms in the morning.
